It's not an illusion! Inside magician David Copperfield's exclusive Caribbean resort, where parrots pick up litter, an outdoor cinema magically appears on the beach... and guests pay £24,000 a night
David Copperfield's tropical getaway is not just a millionaires' playground and celebrity haven.
While
Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates, and Johnny Depp are all rumoured to have
spent time on the lush property in the Bahamas where Penelope Cruz
married Javier Bardem, it is also available to rent... at a cool £24,000
a night.
The
world's most successful magician has a second life in real estate with
the chain of 11 Bahamas islands he turned into an exclusive Caribbean
resort, which has everything from a giant drive in movie theatre on
Coconut Beach to 'The Houdini Room' filled with memorabilia from his
hero.
'Run us a bath would you love? Flower petals optional': A bathing experience at Copperfield's resort
What d'you mean we're sleeping outside tonight? White sand beaches are perfectly manicured for guests
In
2006, the famed magician bought the 150-acre island of Musha Cay and its
surrounding chain for a reputed £30 million, and with £25 million and
five years of remodeling, made it into his own personal Fantasy Island
complete with a staff of
30, with furniture
flown in from all over the world - including Harry Houdini's pool table.
All told, the 11 islands comprise 700-acres and are worth upwards of
$100 million (£60million), and Copperfield describes his resort as 'the most magical vacation destination in the world.
It's
been widely reported that Copperfield found the main island after
apparently drawing criss-crossing lines between Easter Island and
Stonehenge, and the Pyramid of Giza and the Pyramid of the Sun in the
Yucatan, and determining the exact spot at which the two intersected.
Daily
rates for 2014 are £24,000 for up to 12 guests with each additional
guest up to 24 (resort capacity) charged an extra £900, which includes
all meals and drinks such as fine wines and champagnes.
Select
extras range from spectacular fire work events (£15,000) and a
multi-island treasure hunt created, written and scored by David
Copperfield and his creative team.
'Peaceful here isn't it?' Celebrities are no doubt tempted by the islands which are far from the prying lenses of the paparazzi
Secluded spot: The magician named his archipelago, which he began buying in the early 2000's, the Islands of Copperfield Bay
The
treasure hunt takes guests across Musha Cay and the Islands of
Copperfield Bay covering 700 tropical acres. Winners and all
participants receive gifts and every hunt has graphics including
treasure maps personalised and handmade specifically for the event.
(£15,000 for up to 24 guests)
Copperfield
named his wild mini-archipelago in the Bahamas the Islands of
Copperfield Bay and they are also reputed to have a fountain of youth, a
secret underground city,
and a treasure hunt bearing pirate booty.
'The
island experience is the creation of every great place I’ve ever been
combined with the imagination that I have in my theatre work,' he told Forbes Magazine recently.
Copperfield
has described Musha as his most important project to date - presumably
not including the birth of his daughter Sky four years ago and his
engagement to long-term partner Chloe Gosselin.
'The island experience is the creation of every
great place I've ever been combined with the imagination that I have in
my theatre work,' Copperfield says
Night dining: The islands are reputed to have a fountain of youth and a secret underground city
Apparently
the magician oversees even the tiniest of details, from selecting the
board games made available for guests to designing the users' manuals
for phones and items of technology.
'Because
of my work I have the privilege of living in extraordinary places
around the world,' he says. 'I wanted to recreate the details of those
experiences here - from the water pressure in the shower to the thread
count in the towels.'
‘The
island experience is the creation of every great place I’ve ever been
combined with the imagination that I have in my theatre work,’
Copperfield said in a recent Forbes interview. ‘People on the cover of
your magazine come there a lot.’
The resort counts among its staff a crew of macaws which are specially trained to clean debris from the beach.
TEN DESTINATION FOR HONEY MOON IN AFRICAN
For travelers, Africa has it all: iconic wildlife, epic landscapes, ancient wonders, and an incredible variety of cultures that have intrigued intrepid adventurers for centuries! However, this vast and beautiful continent also has it's sweet side, and it's a perfect place for newlyweds looking to experience the ultimate romantic getaway. A honeymoon, after all, is usually a once-in-a-lifetime affair, so why not make it unforgettable?
To help out, we've looked at the photos and recommendations of real travelers at minube.net to find the most stellar honeymoon ideas for couples looking to explore this most diverse of continents. From a candle-lit desert oasis to a dreamy tropical archipelago, here are the 10 best honeymoon destinations in Africa.
Tofo, Mozambique - While the gorgeous coastal nation of Mozambique might not be everyone's first thought for a honeymoon, the sleepy town of Tofo really does have all the ingredients for a perfect trip. Nestled on a tranquil bay looking out over the Indian Ocean, Tofo is a colonial-era fishing village where the pace of life is syrupy slow and the ocean air is filled with the scent of fresh grilled lobster. It also happens to be the world's premier destination for swinming with whale sharks and manta rays
Douz, Tunisia - The golden dunes and unparalleled night skies of the Tunisian desert also make for a surprisingly romantic honeymoon. Those planning a trip should consider starting their Tunisia experience at Yadis Ksar Ghilane (pictured above), a desert encampment which combines the romantic setting of a palm-lined desert oasis with the comforts of luxury desert tents. Douz, often referred to as the "Gateway to the Sahara," is also a popular launching point for excursions to the Jebil national park as well as off-roading trips to the Sahara. Masai Mara National Park, Kenya - Honeymooners looking for a more adventurous getaway would do good to consider a multi-day route through Kenya's Masai Mara National Park. The Masai Mara, one of Kenya's most popular parks, is home to a stunning variety of animals including the famous "Big 5" of the African grasslands and serves as the backdrop to the world's most awe-inspiring animal migration Beyond the wildlife and unique local culture, couples can also reserve stays at some of the more luxurious bush camps and spend their evenings sipping gin & tonics riverside or taking an al-fresco shower while the sun sets over the countryside. Praslin Island, Seychelles - The Seychelles Islands are a growing African contender on a resort tourism scene traditionally dominated by the South Pacific and the Caribbean. The Seychelles offer the lush vegetation and exotic beaches of any tropical archipelago, but really takes things to another level on Praslin Island; Praslin is a lesser-populated island that's home to incredible and virtually untouched beaches like Gran Ansé as well as the vallee' de Mai Nature Reserve , a UNESCO World Heritage Site that's home to such an incredible variety of plant and animal life that one 19th-century general named it the real-life Garden of Eden. Zanzibar, Tanzania - Few African destinations have the coastal or historical appeal of Zanzibar, a white-sand archipelago off the coast of Tanzania whose historic district of STONE TOWN is one of East Africa's few remaining ancient cities and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Curious couples should consider heading to Nungwi, a quiet touristy village on the northern tip of Unguja Island where they can spend their post-nuptial days relaxing next to the turquoise waters, cruising through vibrant mangroves, and exploring the delightful "ghost islands" that appear during low tide. Great Rift Valley, Kenya - The area surrounding Lake Naivasha in Kenya's Great Rift Valley is one of the most spectacular in the country in terms of natural abundance. It's also full of charming colonial-style country hotels where mother nature is literally at your door step. The region is home to hundreds of bird species (especially flamingos) and is an ideal starting point to explore attractions like hell's gate national park a otherworldly terrain of cliffs and volcanoes, as well as the giraffes and zebras of Crater Lake Game Sanctuary. (Photo by Tania)
Belo Sur Mer, Madagascar - Madagascar's unique wildlife seems to have earned it a spot in our collective imagination, and there's no better or more romantic introduction to the island than Belo Sur Mer, a quiet fishing village on Madagascar's western coast. Peace and quiet are the order of the day in isolated Belo Sur Mer, so you'll have to plan day-trips to get out and explore the island's parks, but there's no better way to end the day than a long solitary stroll on one of Madagascar's gorgeous beaches and a dinner of fresh local seafood. (Photo by Comoyle)
Royal Livingstone Hotel, Zambia - One minube user put it clearly: "It is one of the most romantic places in the world." Located on the banks of the Zambezi River only a stone's throw from the epic Victoria Falls and chobe national park the Royal Livingston Hotel is one of Africa's most revered hotels both for its unbeatable location and almost magical atmosphere of enchanting architecture, riverside cafes, and curious local wildlife. (Photo by Farodesuances)
Bissagos Archipelago, Guinea-Bissau - The islands that make up this archipelago and UNESCO BIOSPHERE RESERVE are perfect for newlyweds looking to really have some privacy. Only 20 of the archipelago's 88 islands are populated, which leaves plenty of untouched white-sand islands to explore; and given that international tourism has yet to penetrate deep into the Bissagos, you'll be able to find plenty of romantic beach-side cabins and oceanfront restaurants without having to pay a bundle in return. (Photo by Vincenzo Tessarin)
Cape Winelands, South Africa - Rather than Tuscany or Napa, why not opt for the rugged mountains and rolling vineyards of South Africa's Cape Winelands for your honeymoon? The green valleys that make up the Winelands are wedged between scenic peaks and dotted by historic wineries and estates dating back to the time of the Huguenots. Here, you can leisurely explore the country's most charming historical wineries, sample some of the cellars' best vintages, and experience life in one of the world's premier wine regions. 20 MOST PEACEFUL COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD
1. Denmark
Denmark tops the list of the most peaceful countries on Earth since it’s really a safe place to live. Even while Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, was under occupation by the Nazis during the World War II, it still did not fight. The point is that people living in Denmark prefer to focus on economic matters, instead of involving themselves in various armed conflicts. Danish people are very friendly, open and helpful. Personally I have been to Copenhagen twice and I wish I lived in this country. I’m pretty sure that those who have been to Denmark at least once could say the same.
2. Norway
Many people do not expect Norway to appear in the list of the most peaceful countries in the world. Perhaps, this is because of Anders Behring Breivik, mass murderer, who hit the pride of the country hard. Sure, it was an extraordinary incident, but according to the Global Peace Index Norway is one of the world’s most peaceful countries and friendly and safe place to live. Norway is the country with the highest level of human development in the globe, plus, the government of Oslo always places peace at the forefront of the priorities of the country.
3. Singapore
As an active member of the international community and, overall, a small nation, Singapore can never take its right to exist and security for granted. Since achieving its independence in 1965 as a sovereign Republic, Singapore has always concentrated on being a great neighbor, through establishing social, peaceful, economic, cordial political relations with all countries.
The country has worked with the United Nations and its supporting agencies on a great variety of efforts. It also participates in various global, unilateral and multilateral organizations to promote international cooperation, including WTO (World Trade Organization). Singapore is among the most peaceful countries in the world as well as one of the world’s wealthiest countries. The homicide and violent crime rates are lower than the criminal rates.
4. Slovenia
A beautiful European country, Slovenia is also among the most peaceful countries in the world. The country got its lowest marks in funding for the United Nations peacekeeping missions, number of police and security officers, level of perceived criminality in society, number of organized internal conflicts, violent protests, and number of internal and external wars fought. I agree with the Global Peace Index and believe that Slovenia deserves its place in the list of the most peaceful countries on Earth. Moreover, with its wonderful cities like Maribor and Ljubljana teeming with unique culture, Slovenia is a fantastic travel destination.
5. Sweden
One of the most beautiful Scandinavian countries, Sweden is located in the far north of Europe. Although Sweden is one of the biggest weapon exporters in Europe, the country has a low level of robberies (only 9,000 a year) compared to the United States (about 350,000 a year)! According to the Global Peace Index, Sweden is one of the most peaceful countries in the world, in spite of the fact that it’s among the world’s top arms exporters. Besides, Sweden has not been to war and has not participated in any combats for the whole 2 centuries.
6. Iceland
Iceland was also ranked as one of the most peaceful countries in the world, staying out of the main conflicts in the world. Iceland seldom or never hits the headlines and despite the collapse of the Icelandic banks several years ago, the country is remained as an amazing place of spectacular natural beauty. Tourists from all parts of the world come to Iceland to view its huge glaciers and raging volcanoes, as well as numerous unique natural and cultural attractions in Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland.
7. Belgium
According to the Global Peace Index, Belgium is one of the best and most peaceful places to live in Europe and on Earth. Situated in the heart of Europe, this small country holds a special place. Brussels, the capital of Belgium, is home to the European Union and NATO. Belgium boasts medieval cities, beautiful town halls, majestic castles, and captivating natural beauty. Homicide and imprisonment rates are low in this country, even though Belgium did experience a crisis within its government over the 2008-2011 period.
8. Czech Republic
A relatively new country, the Czech Republic gained its independence from the Soviet Bloc in 1989 due to the Velvet Revolution and its subsequent split with Slovakia. After the division of Czechoslovakia, the Czech Republic has largely concentrated on building a strong capitalist economy and creating a stable climate for investment. In 2009, the Human Development Index (HDI) ranked the Czech Republic as a country of ‘Very High Human Development.’ Renowned mostly for its magnificent capital city Prague and breathtaking natural beauty, the Czech Republic draws tourists from all over the world.
9. Switzerland
According to IEP, the Swiss maintain a well-functioning government and an open political culture. Illustrating the quality of government, Switzerland received the lowest score for political instability. It’s also among the world’s most peaceful countries that have low levels of violent crime. Although Switzerland is known for its neutrality in regional, international and global political issues, it maintains strong diplomatic relations with various countries around the world
10. Japan
One of the most enchanting countries culturally, Japan has the third largest economy in the world. Since the World War II, Japan has been really peaceful, with little internal conflict and low crime. Moreover, the country maintains cordial relations with its neighbors. Japan has not had a professional military since the end of WWII. The country settles on an internal security force in order to maintain the peace. Personally I enjoy visiting Japan and I also consider this country to be peaceful as well as breathtakingly beautiful.
11. Ireland
With its rich historical sites, amazing green pastures and friendly people, it’s not surprising that Ireland is one of the most peaceful countries on Earth! Ireland is an overall fabulous country with a plethora of reasons for tourism! Its rich literary history, castle-topped hills, spectacular coastline and legendary hospitality make Ireland a wonderful place to visit any time of the year.
12. Finland
Finland is considered one of the most peaceful and livable countries, which is not renowned for its combative nature. Finland is still a country that embraces mandatory civil and military service for young people, and the country’s only participation in fighting has been as a part of joint United Nations peacekeeping forces. When speaking about Finland, I want to say about its education. Finland places education at the heart of literally everything. Finland’s education system is ranked fifth best in the world.
13. New Zealand
Each year since 2007, the Institute for Economics and Peace has ranked New Zealand as one of the most peaceful countries in the world. With a small percentage of its population in prison, limited military capability, strong relations with Australia and down-to-earth hospitality, New Zealand is a wonderful country to live in. This is a country of natural beauty, diverse scenery and quirky natives. Visitors from all over the world come to New Zealand to experience rugged landscape, breathtaking alpine glaciers, awesome beaches and fantastic geothermal and volcanic activity. The country is also renowned for its fine wines and there are a great number of grape varieties planted throughout New Zealand. So if you are a great wine lover, you should definitely visit New Zealand at least once in life.
14. Canada
Having one of the best standards of living in the world, Canada is also one of the most peaceful countries on Earth. It has a population of approximately 33 million people, yet it’s the second largest country in the world by area. With clean and safe cities, spectacular scenery and extremely friendly people, Canada is a wonderful and peaceful country to live in. The largest strike against the peace score of Canada is that it has a comparatively high military capability, though it currently is not involved in any conflict.
15. Austria
Austria is a small landlocked South Central European country which gains a place on the list of the most peaceful countries in the world for its stance on international politics. Since World War I and the break-up of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and World War II, Austria has been content to embrace a life of peace and serenity. Many people claim that Austria is a great country to live in and I personally agree with them. After all, with its world-famous resorts in the breathtaking Alps, and magnificent cultural centers like Vienna, I think it’s not surprising to see Austria on this list.
16. Bhutan
According to the 2013 Global Peace Index (GPI), Bhutan is also among the 20 most peaceful countries on Earth. The point is, Bhutan has remained unchanged in international and domestic conflict in the last 6 years with a GPI score of 1.6 out of 5, 1 being really low. The report uses 22 indicators to measure internal peace, including number of police per 100,000 people, levels of perceived criminality, level of organized crime, and external peace indicators that include military expenditure as a percentage of gross domestic product and nuclear and heavy weapons capabilities. I personally think Bhutanese people are peace loving and they are well cultured. Plus, Bhutan boasts plenty of spectacular attractions for everyone.
17. Australia
Australia is a beautiful and peaceful country that offers cultural diversity, spectacular beaches, loads of breathtaking natural beauty, wonderful fauna and friendly people with an amazing sense of humor. Although Australia is a large country, approximately the same size as the USA, it has a small population of about 20 million, so there’s a lot of uninhabited space worth visiting. Australia’s low crime rate, stable political system, high standards of health care and well-maintained roads make it a safe and comparatively easy country to live in or just to explore.

10 AMAZING PLACES TO VISIT BEFORE THEY VARNISH
-
Great Barrier Reef, Australia
The largest coral reef in the world, which covers more than 133,000 sq miles (344,400 sq km), has long been an attraction Down Under. Yet increasing environmental challenges have been steadily eroding the structure for years now. From rising ocean temperatures to an influx of pollution, this natural wonder could be destroyed within the next 100 years.
-
Venice, Italy
The Italian city, long heralded as one of the most romantic in the world thanks to its charming canals, is facing ruin. The city of canals has long been sinking, but an uptick in the number of increasingly severe floods each year could leave Venice uninhabitable by this century’s end.
-
The Dead Sea
The ancient and salty Dead Sea is the site of both history and healing. Yet in the last 40 years, the lake has shrunk by a third and sunk 80 feet. Experts believe it could disappear in as little as 50 years, due to neighboring countries drawing water from the River Jordan (the Sea’s only water source).
-
Glacier National Park, Montana
Once home to more than 150 glaciers, Montana’s majestic national park now has fewer than 25. Rapid climate change could see that number shrink to zero by 2030, which would not only leave the park without a glacier, but also severely disrupt its ecosystem.
-
Maldives
As the lowest-lying country on Earth – with an average elevation of around five feet above sea level – this beautiful island nation could be completely engulfed by water within the next 100 years if sea levels continue to rise. The risk has become so great the Maldivian government has purchased land in other countries for citizens who face displacement.
-
Seychelles
The epitome of a tropical paradise, the Seychelles is a collection of around 115 islands in the Indian Ocean and home to numerous luxury resorts (not to mention a population of nearly 90,000 citizens). Yet the islands are in danger due to beach erosion, after already seeing a devastating coral die-off. Some experts believe that in 50 to 100 years, the entire archipelago could be submerged.
-
The Alps
One of the most famous skiing regions in the world, the Alps sit at a lower altitude than the Rocky Mountains, which leaves the range more susceptible to climate change. Around 3% of Alpine glacial ice is lost per year and experts believe that the glaciers could disappear entirely by 2050.
-
Magdalen Islands, Quebec, Canada
With sandy beaches and sandstone cliffs, the Magdalen Islands are a lovely getaway spot in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Yet the archipelago is regularly pelted by heavy winds and despite a wall of sea ice blunting the worst of the weather, the island’s coast currently erodes up to 40 inches a year. Even more troubling: that protective ice is rapidly melting. If experts are correct and the ice melts completely within the next 75 years, the island’s shores will be vulnerable to the area’s destructive storms.
-
Alaska
The Alaskan tundra is one of the most distinctive features of America’s northernmost state. Yet climate change has led to the thawing of the region’s permafrost, which not only damages infrastructure but also dramatically alters the current ecosystem.
-
Athabasca Glacier, Alberta, Canada
The most-visited glacier in North America, Alberta’s Athabasca Glacier is a part of the Columbia Icefield spanning 2.3 square miles (6 sq km). Yet the glacier has been melting for the past 125 years, with its Southern edge retreating nearly a mile in that timeframe. Experts believe the glacier is now shrinking at its fastest rate yet and is currently losing anywhere between 6.6 to 9.8 feet a year.

An archipelago of volcanic islands the Galapagos Islands are located along the Equator in the Pacific Ocean. These islands have many endemic species, including giant tortoises which make the islands so popular. Although the Galapagos is on the sea level and is on the Equator, the climate is not tropical. For instance, in Santa Cruz Island on the highlands it can be cold and windy, and on the sea level it can be hot and sunny. If you are going to visit the Galapagos Islands, make sure you speak a little Spanish, since it’s the principal language on the islands.

Keep in mind that fishing is not allowed here since Koh Lipe is a part of the Tarutao National Marine Park. But you can go snorkeling or diving. If you’re a good swimmer and you really want to adventure yourself, swim around the island or from one to another.
These are all most gorgeous islands in the world. What is your favorite island? What other gorgeous islands do you know except listed above? Share your thoughts, please!
5 Best All-Inclusive Resorts for Honeymoons
Few travel decisions are as weighty as
deciding where to honeymoon. No surprise many newlyweds choose
all-inclusive resorts: Pay one price and leave worries and wallets
behind. Imagine your most extravagant fantasies, from private torch-lit
beach dinners to personal butler service, plus a whole range of
activities in exotic locales that promote rest, relaxation, and romance à
deux. These five resorts (narrowed down from heaps of idyllic options
around the world) are the cream of the crop; they're so swooningly
romantic, you'd want to propose there if you weren't already...married.
The setting of this stunning boutique resort, 600 feet above St. Lucia's rugged southwest coast, isn't just dramatic: It's a literal cliff-hanger. Architect/owner Nick Troubetzkoy and wife Karolin carved the hideaway from the bluff with unimpeded views of the iconic twin Pitons, St. Lucia's UNESCO World Heritage site. And every element of the resort blends seamlessly with its stunning surroundings. Cocoon in one of the 28 suites, open on one side to nature, with soaring 15-foot ceilings and infinity pools that flow out of the bedroom and living areas. Each bathroom is unique, but all offer stainless steel showers and whirpool tubs for two. Your major domo, summoned by your cell phone, psychically intuits your needs, while James Beard Award-winning chef Allen Susser is at the helm of the resort's culinary offerings, which uses ingredients from the resort's two organic plantations.
Rates from $1,658/couple ($1,894 high season); you must request the all-inclusive Romance package.
Insider Tip: Visit the resort's second beach, Anse Mamin, savor burgers at its jungle grill, then amble into the adjacent working 18th-century plantation, noted for production of cashews to cacao (tours are available with Meno, a font of herbal folklore and local information).
The ambience is nothing if not amorous at this remote, ravishing Relais et Châteaux retreat straddling 600 acres of Montana's spectacular Bitterroot National Forest. The emphasis is on truly getting away from it all (many of the 23 lavish log cabins sit a half-mile or more from the main lodge). Lodge-pole beds, Western-themed quilts, majestic photos, and world-class local artworks impart a cowboy-chic aesthetic that honors the region's ranching heritage. Low-key yet high-tech, you'll be roughing it in style with modern conveniences from Blu-Ray players to private outdoor hot tubs, WiFi to wood-burning fireplaces. Foodies will salivate over chef Jacob Leatherman's scintillating seasonal, farm-to-table fare and extensive wine cellar. All-inclusive rates depending on the season include trail rides, hikes, tennis, fly-casting lessons, snowshoeing, and more. Additional activities for a surcharge include helicopter tours, photo safaris (capture America's Big Five of elk, bear, bighorn sheep, moose, and mountain lion), cattle drives, horseback riding, wildlife watching, and snowmobiling. We love the intensive weekend workshops focusing on photography, cooking, wine, and horsemanship.
Rates from $950/couple.
Insider Tip: The four-night Mountain Romance getaway packages offer a discount (additional days are even cheaper) on the Luxury Cabin plus heartwarming extras from a couple's massage with champagne and chocolates upon arrival.
Thai kings chose Hua Hin, a town caught between mountains and sea about 125 miles south of Bangkok, for their summer palace. Today, amid seven acres of lush gardens and untouched beach, this relaxed retreat makes guests feel like royalty. Since its 1995 opening, Chiva Som has become the Holy Grail for stressed-out urbanites seeking to Zen and zone out: regular Elle Macpherson calls it "Club Med for holistic junkies." Indeed, the high-powered clientele seeking a low-key holiday has included Serena Williams, David and Victoria Beckham, Jude Law, and Kate Moss. Upon arrival you're met by a health and wellness consultant who, after taking your medical history, body measurements, weight, and blood pressure will tailor a personalized program from more than 120 treatments and activities to suit your needs (cooking classes, meditation, yoga, tai chi, stress management, massages, anti-aging regimens). Each stay comes with a daily massage, and coddling is guaranteed, thanks to a staff-guest ratio of 5 to 1. Though the resort is serious about wellness, no one scolds you for skipping Pilates or sipping wine while admiring the sunset. There are 58 pavilions and oceanfront bedrooms, the latter affording views of the Gulf of Thailand. The resort's organic gardens supply most of the well-balanced meals. Is it any wonder that Chiva Som translates to "Haven of Life" in English?
Rates from $530/couple.
Insider Tip: Indulge in the South Indian Body Pampering treatment, derived from healing Kerala practices, in which three therapists simultaneously rub, scrub, and exfoliate your body until you glow inside and out.
With surprisingly sophisticated fare and an incomparable location on one of the area's best beaches, this Secrets outpost offers stellar service in a sensuous setting. With lush tropical gardens on one side and pearly sands with azure blue waters, it's easy to ignore the resort's size (412 rooms, including swim-out suites that access one of 12 pools from their patios). The canny layout feels intimate with buildings staggered amid the 500 acres, abounding in nooks and crannies ideal for relaxing à deux. The design combines luxury with casual comfort, with island touches. Warm jewel-like tones distinguish both the rooms and restaurants. The seven eateries feature remarkably delicious fare for an all-inclusive resort, with the views at Oceana and bistro classics at Bordeaux among the standouts. To ensure you won't sit too heavily in the lap of luxury, there's plenty to do. Adrenaline addicts appreciate the array of activities, from windsurfing to water aerobics, scuba diving to dance lessons. But you can also choose to kick back in the sybaritic Secrets Spa by Pevonia, or chill underneath a palapa between the expansive infinity pool and that magnificent stretch of sand. Opt for the Unlimited-Luxury package, including 24-hour concierge and room service, as well as unlimited connectivity in case you can't resist the lure of civilization.
Rates from $553/couple.
Insider Tip: Book ahead for the arguably the resort's most popular options, a teppanyaki table at Himitsu (the only onsite restaurant requiring reservations) and the cabanas (we adore the luxurious double-decker option).
Fiji is legendary for its pampering private island gems. But Turtle Island—the setting for numerous Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue shoots—practically redefines romance, its natural splendor outshining even those beauties. Celeb honeymooners have included Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, Trista & Ryan Sutter, and Olympic swimmer Grant Hackett and singer Candice Alley (don't blame Turtle Island for the divorce rate). The awe-inspiring approach via seaplane skims shimmering blue waters, and the staff welcomes you "home" upon arrival with a booming "Bula!". There are just 14 individual bures (thatched bungalows), one for each private beach. The resort was created partly to preserve the ecosystem, and the buildings were handcrafted with predominantly local materials. You'll find four-poster beds, sunken Jacuzzis, double hammocks, Pure Fiji body products, and bespoke art. Each couple gets their own Bure Mama, part personal concierge and part butler, who tends to every whim. Explore the 500-acre landfall via hiking trails or horseback rides, then snorkel or sail through the iridescent water. She can organize intimate dining experiences like picnic beach lunches and dinners by lantern light on a floating pontoon. Or join the handful of other guests for community meals showcasing ingredients from the organic hydroponic gardens. After feasting indulge in the traditional Fijian kava ceremony; the friendly staffers (most from three nearby villages) delight in sharing their local culture.
Rates from $2,079/couple.
Insider Tip: Sustainability is important to owner/founder Richard Evanson; go deep-sea fishing and your catch could end up as a local specialty like kokoda, a Fijian take on ceviche.

World's Best Honeymoon Destinations for 2014
Caribbean
While
most of the trending topics on Google’s list pointed to a particular
country or city, one popular search for honeymoon ideas in 2013 was
simply: “Caribbean.”
This region is divided into three areas. The Eastern Caribbean includes
the Bahamas, Anguilla, Dominican Republic, Haiti, the U.S. and British
Virgin Islands, Turks & Caicos, Puerto Rico, and St. Maarten/St.
Martin. Islands in the Southern Caribbean are Antigua, Barbados, Bequia,
Curacao, Dominica, Guadeloupe, Martinique, St. Lucia, Aruba, Bonaire,
Grenada, Nevis, St. Bart, St. Kitts, St. Vincent, and Trinidad and
Tobago. The third region, Western Caribbean, includes Belize, Jamaica,
and the Cayman Islands.
Where to Stay: No matter what your vacation style or your budget, there’s a place that’s right for you in the Caribbean. Jamaica is home to all-inclusive resorts like Sandals and Couples. Jetsetters and yacht-clubbers head for St. Bart with its boutique hotels and French restaurants. Sailors love the U.S. and British Virgin Islands and beach worshippers are at home on Turks & Caicos.
Perfect for Couples Who: Live on the East Coast of the United States and have limited time for a honeymoon. Airlines offer an abundance of flights to the major islands of the Caribbean, where you can find hotels and resorts ranging from camping/budget to well-known chain hotels to all-inclusives to off-the-charts luxury boutique resorts.

New Zealand
Land of the Long White Cloud, New Zealand
tops Google’s list of trending honeymoon destinations and with good
reason. If you and your honey enjoy active adventures in a natural
setting, you’d be hard-pressed to find a more diverse destination. There
are gorgeous beaches for swimming and sunbathing, freshwater lakes for
fishing, fast-moving rivers for rafting, breathtaking fjords to explore,
and mountains to climb. There’s even a region of active volcanoes. New
Zealand is also the only place on earth where you can see flightless
birds like the kakapo and kiwi. The country—made up of North and South
islands as well as a few smaller outer islands—may not be as populated
as nearby Australia but it’s well developed and easy to get around by
car. It’s a long haul to get there though: Air New Zealand flies direct
from Los Angeles to Auckland. It’s a 13-hour trip.
Where to Stay: Located on 17 acres in Taupo in the central region of North Island Huka Lodge is the place to head for an outdoorsy yet decidedly upscale honeymoon. The compound, bordered by the Waikato River and Wairakei Park Reserve, offers opportunities for hiking, fishing, golfing, and day tours to White Island, Mt. Tarawere, Waitomo Caves, and other interesting spots. Within this natural setting you’ll also find luxury hotel standards like a swimming pool, hot tubs, and tennis court. The lodge is intimate with just 18 junior suites, the four-bedroom Owner’s Cottage, and the two-bedroom Alan Pye Cottage.
Perfect for Couples Who: Enjoy active, outdoor adventures paired with a refined, luxury resort.

World's Best Honeymoon Destinations for 2014
Cancun, Mexico
Honeymooners have been going to Cancun on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula for decades to enjoy the soft, white-sand beaches, proximity to ancient Mayan ruins and jungle rainforests, excellent regional cuisine, and well-priced all-inclusive resorts. Crowds descend on Cancun from December through April, but the abundance of resorts and 14 miles of beach help give you a sense of space. Cancun was developed exclusively for tourism so you won’t have an authentic Mexican experience unless you venture further afield. However, if you’re looking for pools with swim-up bars, festive nightclubs, excellent shopping, spa treatments, and activities like golf, jeep adventures, and parasailing, Cancun fits your bill. Tropical storms and the chance of hurricanes are more prevalent in late summer and early fall.Where to Stay: Try the recently reflagged Hyatt Zilara Cancun, Hyatt’s first all-inclusive resort. There are 307 rooms and suites but honeymooners should especially consider one of 17 spacious “swim-up” split-level suites that offer both direct access to the pool and a wrap-around balcony with unobstructed ocean views in two directions. To truly up the ante, book one of the seven 1,331-square-foot presidential penthouse suites with private terraces and hammocks.
Perfect for Couples Who: Will
likely be absolutely exhausted after all their wedding planning and the
big day. The all-inclusive hotels of Cancun pamper honeymooners so they
can start their married lives off with plenty of “us” time.
Maldives
The islands of the Maldives
are quintessential honeymoon destinations with deserted beaches that
vie for the title “most romantic spot in the world.” This archipelago of
dozens of atolls and more than 1,100 coral islands span 35,000 square
feet of the Indian Ocean and is located about 500 miles southwest of Sri
Lanka. The Maldives are truly one of the last unspoiled island getaways
in the world. It’s hard to get there—get ready for a long-haul flight
from the United States plus either a seaplane or boat transfer from the
international airport—but the effort is rewarded with picture-perfect
sunsets, wide beaches, and some of the best diving and snorkeling in the
world. This is the place to interact with whale sharks, manta rays,
reef sharks, sea turtles, and an array of colorful fish and sea
creatures. Resorts are confined to their own islands so you won’t flit
from place to place after you arrive. Almost all of the resorts are
firmly in the “luxury” category. This is the place to book a beach villa
or overwater bungalow.
Where to Stay: Every island resort is unique so you are bound to find one that fits your vacation style. Consider Per Aquum’s Huvafen Fushi with its underwater spa on the North Male Atoll or Niyama on Dhaalu Atoll. Other popular resorts include Taj Exotica Maldives known for the best cuisine in the South Male Atoll, Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru (North Male Atoll), and Angsana Valavaru (Dhaalu Atoll).
Perfect for Couples Who: Love deserted island escapes. Spend your time lazing on the beach, swimming, snorkeling, diving, and enjoying Maldivian sunrises and sunsets.

Bali
Bali
is best-known island of the 17,500 that make up Indonesia’s
archipelago. While the majority of the country is Muslim, Bali is a
sliver of Hindu culture and art. Spirituality is ingrained in the
population and you’ll see offerings of incense, flowers, and rice in
front of just about every temple, home, restaurant, or shop. Just south
of the equator, Bali is always warm, ranging from the high 60s to the
low 90s. Dry season is June through September and that’s when the
humidity is at its lowest. There are several tourist districts. In South
Bali you’ll find Kuta and Bukit (both terrific surf spots), Jimbaran,
Legian, Nusa Dua, Sansur, and Seminyak along with the airport in
Denpasar and popular attractions in Tanah Lot. When honeymooning in
Central Bali, look to the artist community of Ubud that is also home to
beautiful rice terraces and Monkey Forest (a must-visit).
Where to Stay: Many resort aficionados will tell you that it doesn’t get any better than the pampering you’ll experience at an Aman Resort and Bali happens to be home to three of them: Amandari near Ubud, Amankila on a cliff overlooking Lombok Strait, and Amanusa in Nusa Dua on Bali’s southern peninsula. Book a package to stay a few nights at all three unique destinations.
Perfect for Couples Who: want to experience a fascinating, spiritual culture and immerse themselves in art, dance, Asian cooking, and outdoor activities ranging from swimming and diving to white-water rafting and hiking.

Thailand
An incredibly diverse country in Southeast Asia, Thailand
is bordered by Myanmar to the west, Laos to the northeast, Cambodia to
the southeast, and Malaysia to the south. In addition to the mainland,
Thailand is home to popular island getaways like Phuket and Phi Phi
Island in the Andaman Sea and Ko Samui in the Gulf of Thailand. A
perfect multi-week honeymoon to Thailand should include time in Bangkok,
the nation’s capital, Chiang Mai and/or Chiang Rai (gateway to the
Golden Triangle) in the north, and one of the island getaways. That way,
you’ll get a cosmopolitan city with fantastic food and culture plus
scenic mountains, lush jungles, and idyllic beaches.
Where to Stay: Let Four Seasons plan the perfect Thai honeymoon with stays at their three resorts: Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok, Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai, and Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle in Chiang Rai, which is well known for its elephant trekking program.
Perfect for Couples Who: Want a mix of activities from city excursions and nightlife to mountain trekking to beach-combing to shopping both modern malls and outdoor fish and flower markets.

Belize
Located in Central America, Belize
is an incredibly compelling honeymoon destination for three simple
reasons: its close proximity to the United States (a two-hour flight
from Miami), its weather (around 84 degrees daily year-round), and the
190-mile-long Belize Barrier Reef. The reef is easily accessible along
the coast and is wildly popular for snorkeling and scuba trips, fishing
excursions, and romantic sunset cruises. The country is hemmed in by the
Caribbean Sea on the east, Guatemala to the west, and Mexico in the
north. In addition to the Belize Barrier Reef, the country is gifted
with pristine beaches, jungle and rainforests, and ruins dating back to
the Mayan period. Belize attracts a variety of honeymooners, from
nature-lovers to history buffs to diving fanatics to those who simply
prefer to sit on the beach at their resort with drink in hand.
Where to Stay: If water adventures aren’t your thing but you’d still love to honeymoon in Belize, head to Ka’ana Resort in the western part of the country. This inland boutique resort is located in a valley in the Maya Mountains in the Cayo District. Luxurious 1,250-square-foot, one-bedroom private pool villas offer the best of indoor/outdoor living and are ideal for romantic getaways. From the resort, you can enjoy day trips to the Tapir Mountain Nature Reserve; Maya ruins like Tikal, Zunantunichm, and Caracol; Barton Creek Cave for kayaking; horseback riding along the bank of the Mopan River; or go jaguar tracking or bird-watching with expert naturalists and guides.

The jewel of the Southern Caribbean, St. Lucia,
has been a popular honeymoon destination for many years. There are
gorgeous palm-fringed beaches, rainforest, the majestic Piton Mountains,
and locals that appreciate the tourists who visit their little piece of
paradise. St. Lucia is safe so you won’t be confined behind the high
walls of your resort. Get out there and explore. Try ATVing along hill
trails or zip-lining above the treetops of the rainforest. Spend an
afternoon hiking in the mountains, sea kayaking, or just relaxing on the
beach. You can go horseback riding or take a dive tour.
Where to Stay: You’ll find guesthouses and villas here alongside all-inclusive resorts and luxury boutique-style hideaways. Calabash Cove on the northwest coast of the island is a good choice as is the family-owned Cap Maison and Ladera, which is situated on Soufriere Volcano and overlooks the Pitons and Caribbean Sea.
Perfect for Couples Who: Want a refined beach resort vibe and the flexibility to travel beyond the walls of their resort.

Tahiti
One trending honeymoon destination is Tahiti, which is home to the capital of French Polynesia:
Papeete. Often, travelers search “Tahiti” when they are really looking
for information about the entire chain of Society Islands that includes
Moorea, Bora Bora, Huahine, Raiatea, and Taha’a, among others. These
islands—and the Polynesian culture—are intoxicating. The history of how
the indigenous tribes later populated Hawaii (traveling there by canoe)
is fascinating. France proclaimed these islands its colony in 1880 and
French is still the official language. The Polynesian and French
cultures blended to create a unique, laidback ethos that nearly every
visitor falls in love with. The islands themselves are lovely with
perfect white sand beaches (often protected by coral reefs), amazing
snorkeling and diving, and lush inlands that are punctuated by fragrant,
flowering plants. The international airport is located on Tahiti and
it’s worth staying there a few days to get your bearings, shop the
outdoor market, and maybe even buy some Tahitian pearls.
Where to Stay: InterContinental has a long history in French Polynesia and offers the InterContinental Tahiti Resort, InterContinental Moorea Resort, and two options on Bora Bora: InterContinental Bora Bora Le Moana and InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa. Honeymooners often island hop between them. Start with a few nights in Tahiti and then take the ferry to nearby Moorea. You’ll then fly to Bora Bora, where you should make a point to stay in one of the overwater bungalows.
Perfect for Couples Who: Want to spend quality time with each other on a secluded beach. Tahiti made the overwater bungalow concept famous and you’ll find it so romantic to step off your bungalow’s deck right into the crystal clear waters where you can go swimming and snorkeling.

Croatia
Closing Google’s Zeitgeist list of up-and-coming honeymoon destinations is Croatia.
If you love the Mediterranean but are tired of the crowds, it’s time to
visit Croatia. While it’s gaining in popularity, peak vacation periods
are not nearly as frenetic as their neighbors across the Adriatic. One
of the best ways to explore the Dalmatian Coast is via cruise ship.
You’ll call upon places like the city of Dubrovnik, which has been a
bustling seaport since the 7th century; the island of Korcula, where you
can bike, snorkel, or kayak; Split with the breathtaking Diocletian’s
Palace—now a UNESCO World Heritage site—that was built in 305 AD; the
fishing port of Rovinj; and the quaint island of Hvar with its beaches,
lavender fields, groves of olive trees, pine forests, fruit orchards,
and vineyards.
Where to Stay: There is no better way to get acquainted with Croatia than via cruise ship. Try the 694-passenger Azamara Quest, which sails a 7-night round-trip itinerary from Venice that calls upon Zadar, Split, Hvar, and Dubrovnik in Croatia plus Montenegro’s Kotor. Tere Moana, the intimate 90-guest ship from Paul Gauguin Cruises also sails round-trip from Venice with calls on Sibenik, Trogir, Split, Korcula, Dubrovnik, Hvar, and Rovinj. SeaDream Yacht Club’s 112-guest SeaDream II comes to the table with a Dubrovnik to Venice 7-night cruise that calls on Korcula, Hvar, Sibenik, Rab, Pula, and Piran.
Perfect for Couples Who: Want a mix of Old Europe and a traditional Mediterranean cruise that offers plenty of beach time.

Best Caribbean Resorts and Hotels

The sun hangs lazy on the horizon. Your bartender Teddy just shook up
another round of Planter’s Punch with the same recipe he’s been using
for the past half century. The walls here at the Jamaica Inn have seen
everyone from Marilyn Monroe to Katharine Hepburn—probably because they
also share that intangible “it” factor.
It’s that undeniable energy, that nexus of setting and service, design and story, that scored Jamaica Inn the No. 7 spot on Travel + Leisure’s 18th-annual World’s Best Awards. Lots of hotels have great rooms and restaurants, but only a few—like this beachfront hotel—truly capture our imaginations.
That’s why we tapped our globe-trotting readers to weigh in on which hotels and destinations have it—and which don’t. The result: a definitive list of top Caribbean hotels, from glam St. Bart’s starlets to old-world Bahamas charmers.
One secret to ranking high: nothing beats a winning location. This year’s No. 1 hotel, Jade Plantation, has walls open to the emerald-hued crags of St. Lucia’s Pitons. Other top Caribbean hotels ramble over former sugar plantations, are tucked away on private islands, and cling to cliffs above pink-sand beaches.
Winning resorts also know how to serve up serious cuisine, be it locally foraged ingredients or star chef–certified kitchens, like Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s buzzy offerings at St. Bart’s Eden Rock (No. 11). The World’s Best winners redefine all-inclusive food offerings, know how to make local street food accessible, and even have their own organic farms.
The top 20 best Caribbean hotels and resorts have a stretch of sand for everyone. After this winter, isn’t it time for a vacation?

peninsula—feel like a true oasis. Most of the 98 airy units (outfitted
with vaulted ceilings, tile floors, and gleaming acacia-wood furniture)
are set along the waterfront, just steps from the sand. The common areas
include three alfresco restaurants, three fabulous open-air cocktail
bars, and a spa offering decadent treatments such as
papaya–pineapple–crème fraîche body wraps.

Forty years ago, the island of Grand Cayman was transformed into a
world-class financial center—the Switzerland of the Caribbean. Today,
the big luxury-hotel chains are betting that the island’s
ultra-efficient infrastructure, great sailing and diving, and one-hour
flight time from Miami will also make it the next big destination. With
its new 365-room beachfront hotel, the Ritz-Carlton has gotten a jump on
the competition. The 144-acre high-end playground introduces a who’s

Norman–designed golf course, Nick Bollettieri tennis pros, a La Prairie
spa, and five restaurants, including one run by acclaimed chef Eric

A west shore institution, Round Hill is one of the places that put
Jamaican tourism on the map. Over the years, many a famous name has
slept here, from presidents and prime ministers to movie stars and
professional athletes. The 36 white-on-white rooms are spread between
the two-story Pineapple House overlooking the infinity pool and beach,
and 27 private villas (most with their own pools) scattered among the
property’s coconut, pineapple, and allspice groves. The 18th-century
great house is now a luxury spa, the cocktail lounge and piano bar were
designed by Ralph Lauren, and culinary maestro Martin Maginley oversees
one of the best resort kitchens on the island.

Rockhouse Hotel
This ultrahip hangout takes its name from its cluster of
thatched-roof bungalows built atop rock cliffs that jut just above an
aquamarine cove. Most of the 34 so-called rock houses are outfitted with
private patios or sundecks; a few have private ladders leading right
down into the sea. With four-poster beds made of local timber and
covered in the softest linens, soaring ceilings, and giant windows
facing the sea or gardens, the rooms encourage ordering breakfast in bed
before venturing out for snorkeling in the sheltered waters of the reef
or an “On the Rocks” massage (ask for Joy or Maureen) in the new
open-air, cliff-top spa. Your dollars do double duty; your vacation
helps build and repair local schools and expand libraries. Since 2004,
the Rockhouse Foundation has donated over $500,000 to its community.
Room to Book:
Villa #18, which is close to the cliff's edge, offers maximum privacy.Insider Tip:

Jamaica Inn
Gracing its own sandy cove on the east side of Ocho Rios, this
classic Caribbean resort has been around since the colonial days of the
1950’s. It has long been a favorite among visiting British elite,
including the likes of Winston Churchill. Thoroughly spruced up in 2007,
the 47 suites are a blend of Indonesian, colonial, and retro Jamaican
décor, but remain refreshingly unplugged, with no TV’s to shatter the
peace. Every suite has its own outdoor space, with a private infinity
pool and sea entrance just steps from the bedrooms. Although the Jamaica
Inn offers the usual distractions like couples’ massages at the KiYara
spa, it still cultivates a colonial air, with croquet on one of the
sweeping lawns and polo lessons at nearby Chukka Cove equestrian center.
Room to Book:
For maximum seclusion, book the White Suite. Occupying its own little peninsula, this 2,000-square-foot hideaway has antique furnishings, yards of billowing white curtains, a columned porch, and a private pool.Insider Tip:

It all started here. The concept of a romantic adults-only resort with
everything included—food, beverages, activities—began when Couples Tower
Isle was launched in 1978 in Tower Isle, an island getaway dating back
to 1949. In 2009, the resort reopened after a major renovation that
included 20 new rooms (bringing the total to 226), a dive pool, and 10
spa treatment rooms. Guest accommodations all feature king beds and
private balconies or patios, and are decked out in a soothing palette of
sand and sky blue with vintage-style rattan armchairs. In addition to
the healthful Veggie Bar, which serves smoothies and salads, there are
five other dining options, including the Pan-Asian menu at Bayside and
more upscale Continental-meets-Caribbean cuisine at Eight Rivers.
